    Ross University School of Medicine, slated to permanently relocate the Medical Sciences campus to Bridgetown, Barbados in January 2019, invites applications for a faculty post at any rank in Behavioral Sciences in the Department of Clinical Foundations. The academic center will leverage existing facilities in the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Center, which is centrally located in the vibrant capital city.

    Education is the primary focus of the faculty. The academic year is divided into three semesters with a new class of students admitted each semester. Lectures and other educational responsibilities continue throughout the year. Research opportunities exist, primarily in the area of medical education.

    Responsibilities

    • The preparation of course material (PowerPoints, handouts, practice questions, etc.)
    • The delivery of effective lectures
    • Facilitate small group learning opportunities
    • Cooperate with our Center for Teaching and Learning in supporting improved student learning.
    • Supervise educational activities of students under actual or simulated situations
    • Prepare instructional plans and career analyses to reflect current changes in the field
    • Mentor and advise individuals and groups of students in academic matters and exercise professional judgment in referring students to appropriate personnel
    • Develop new instructional materials and teaching techniques with participation in on-going reviews and revision of curriculum planning
    • Actively participate in relevant professional activities in order to improve teaching and subject matter competence
    • Serve on faculty committees as appointed or elected, and confer with advisory groups in order to modify course content
    • Participate in other activities as assigned by the Department Chair or Dean

    Qualifications

    • Ph.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or related Behavioral Science field. M.D. or D.O. in Psychiatry or Behavioral Medicine may also be considered.
    • Preference for a specialty in one of the following areas: Neuropsychology, Behavioral Medicine, Health Psychology, Epidemiology/Biostatistics, and/or Psychiatric Teaching
    • Strongly preferred: Active license or license-eligible within candidate’s discipline and geographical location.
    • Enthusiastic teacher with previous teaching experience at a North American or United Kingdom medical school
    • Flexibility and ability to work well on a team
    • Desire for self-improvement
    • Extensive knowledge of the behavioral sciences
    • Ability to relate concepts to clinical scenarios
    • Excellent communication skills in English
    • Knowledge of principles, methods, techniques, materials and equipment used in postsecondary teaching/medical education preferred
    • Documented record of teaching effectiveness desirable
    • Educational technology skills, including use of e-learning management systems, audience response systems, online examinations, videoconferencing, desirable
    • Ability to demonstrate ongoing faculty development in medical education desirable
    • Ability to demonstrate use of active teaching methods preferred
    • Ability to initiate, complete, and present results of medical education research projects desirable
