    Ross University School of Medicine, slated to permanently relocate the medical sciences campus to Bridgetown, Barbados in January 2019, invites applications for Counselor. The academic center will leverage existing facilities in the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Center, which is centrally located in the vibrant capital city.

    This non-academic post will provide individual, couple, family, and group counseling to a diverse academic community of medical students and their families. Additional responsibilities will include assessment, crisis intervention, workshop development and facilitation, outreach, and consultation with other RUSM professionals and programs

    Responsibilities

    • Provide individual, couple, family, and group counseling to medical students and family members;
    • Provide crisis intervention, assessment, and on-call services;
    • Develop and implement mental health promotion and outreach activities;
    • Consult with other RUSM departments, programs, and professionals;
    • Provide guidance in career exploration, academic development, and other career related issues;
    • Participate in Quality Improvement and Peer Review activities;
    • Participate in on-going professional development, departmental, and RUSM professional meetings; and

          Other duties, as assigned by the Director of Counseling

    Qualifications

    • Doctorate (preferred) or Master's (required) degree in Counseling or a closely related field (e.g., Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or Social Work);
    • Licensure/certification;
    • Ability to administer and interpret evidence-based behavioral health assessments;
    • Excellent computer and written and oral communication skills;
    • Strong leadership and in-depth knowledge about the clinical practice of counseling;
    • Active participation in professional associations;
    • In-depth knowledge of evidence-based intervention approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness-based stress reduction;
    • Documented record of culturally competent clinical experience.
