    Ross University School of Medicine is slated to permanently relocate our Medical Sciences campus to Bridgetown, Barbados in January 2019.  We are currently seeking a IT Engineer to add to our new team in Bridgetown!

    The IT Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of Medical & Healthcare network and wireless infrastructure, Telephony systems, Internet DIA, Broadband, MPLS, voice circuits, firewall, routers, SDWAN, caching systems, bandwidth shaping devices. Will be responsible for configuration, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Wired and wireless network and the fundamental performance tuning of such devices working under the administration of Adtalem Network Administrators and Medical & HealthCare Regional Network Teams.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with Network Administrators and Vendors to establish the networking environment by designing system configuration, coordinating system installation and defining, documenting and enforcing system standards.
    • Design and implement new solutions and improve resilience of the current environment.
    • Maximize network performance by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network & wireless problems and outages, scheduling upgrades and collaborating with network architects on network optimization.
    • Undertake data network fault investigations in local and wide area environments using information from multiple sources.
    • Secure network systems by establishing and enforcing policies, and defining and monitoring access.
    • Support and administer firewall environments in line with IT security policy.
    • Report network operational status by gathering and prioritizing information and managing projects.
    • Upgrade data network equipment to the latest stable firmware releases.
    • Configure routing and switching equipment, hosted IP voice services and firewalls.
    • Provide remote support to on-site engineers and end users/customers during installation.
    • Provide remote troubleshooting and fault finding if issues occur upon initial installation.
    • Undertake capacity management and audit of IP addressing and hosted devices within data centers.
    • Liaise with project management teams, third-line engineers and service desk engineers on a regular basis.
    • Speak to customers via email and phone to assist in resolution of Service Desk Tickets.
    • Communicates with vendor’s quotes, support, new technologies, and vendor relationship tasks.
    • Maintains and communicates project plan and status updates.
    • Provides guidance, training, and perspective to associate-level staff.
    • Continues to develop skills with self-study and by attending vendor training/ conferences and presentations to observe demonstrations of system hardware/software.
    • Completes other projects and duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related subject.
    • Proven hands-on network engineering experience.
    • CCNP or higher (CCIE and/or CISSP highly valued).
    • Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS).
    • Solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model.
    • Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools.
