    Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM), located on the island of Barbados in the West Indies, invites applications for Clinical Anatomy Instructors in the Department of Medical Foundations. The RUSM academic center has facilities in the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Center, which is centrally located in the vibrant capital city of Bridgetown.

    The successful candidate will support the development and delivery of clinical anatomy teaching at RUSM.  The post provides an excellent opportunity for surgical trainees or others post-medical degree candidates, with an interest in anatomy, to take a sabbatical from clinical training to develop their teaching and research skills. In addition, there will be time available to support candidates in preparing for professional examinations (where appropriate). The successful candidate will have either completed Basic Surgical Training or other specialty training or equivalent.

     

    This post is a temporary one-year assignment commencing August 1st, 2019, but may be extended upon agreement of RUSM and the candidate.

    Responsibilities

    • The successful candidate will contribute to anatomy teaching within the Foundations of Medicine Department at RUSM.
    • The successful candidate will be expected to become fully conversant with human clinically-relevant anatomy. This should be seen as an opportunity to enhance anatomical knowledge in preparation for a career in surgery, or other anatomical focused specialties.
    • There will be an opportunity to develop computer-based learning material and to explore modifications to teaching in the early years of the medical curriculum.
    • There are excellent opportunities to contribute to pedagogical research but the balance of his/her time will be spent in educational activity.
    • The post would suit candidates who have either completed a basic surgical training program, a foundation program such as an internship and are planning to undertake specialist training in surgery or wish to take a sabbatical from a current post.

    Qualifications

    • The post holder must have a MSc in Clinical Anatomy or be a fully qualified medical practitioner.
    • If the candidate is a qualified medical practitioner, they should have completed their two-year foundation program or equivalent.
    • Evidence of an interest in, or experience of teaching, human anatomy
    • Technologically “savvy” and ability, or willingness to learn, to use digital platforms (sectra tables, ultrasound) for teaching human anatomy
    • Experience with anatomy laboratory instruction at the graduate level
    • Ability to relate anatomical concepts to clinical scenarios
    • Excellent communication skills in English
    • Desire for self-improvement
    • Flexibility and ability to work well on a team
