The Data Analyst role, reporting to the Director of Academic Analysis and Learning Management Systems, is responsible for providing value through reporting analysis for institutional initiatives. He/She compiles, analyzes, interprets and visualizes data, developing narratives and recommendations to present summary findings to department leadership. The Data Analyst supports the Office of Academic Analytics and Learning Management Systems with regard to all aspects of solution and project life-cycles. The incumbent will also participate in the development and maintenance of performance metrics, measurements, methods, identification, examination, and reporting on outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and document systems and reporting requirements gathering, functional specifications compilation, and system designs to ensure delivery of satisfactory reporting tools to the business which maximize RUSM’s technology investment.
  • Assist in conducting organizational statistical analysis for prescriptive and predictive analysis using a variety of statistical tools including but not limited to SPSS, Watson Analytics, Wave Analytics, Power Bi, R-Studio and Excel Data Analysis Add-ons.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for institutional data and the data source systems to ensure business units, committees, faculty, leadership, compliance and institutional data support teams are empowered with accurate, timely and digestible data.
  • Support the transfer of reports and reporting capabilities from the COSMOS to COGNOS BI reporting tools by actively advising on business processes as they relate to data accuracy.
  • Assist in tracking and monitoring student outcomes and their relation to academic quality, research, institutional policy and all other key performance indicators.
  • Participate in day to day reporting via ad-hoc reports, standardized reports, dashboards and data visualizations for operations, academic, accreditation, research, internal and external audits, governmental, educational boards and risk reporting.
  • Maintain data dictionary of data tables and data relationships in various student information and learning management systems.
  • Identify reporting opportunities to create or update reports by formulating and concisely documenting functional, design, parameter and automation specifications while also clearly communicating expectations.
  • Provide primary problem diagnosis and coordinate resolution ensuring root cause is determined and solution is appropriate for data quality.
  • Liaison with business unit management to ensure information systems, workflows and data entry processes align with best practices, ensure maximum data quality and realize the full functionality of the systems.
  • Learns new applications as necessary. Able to learn from system documentation and side by side observations.
  • Completes other projects and duties as assigned by the Director of Academic Analysis and Learning Management Systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in data analysis, data science, computer science, statistics, market research, educational research or equivalent from an accredited institution of higher learning preferred.
  • Proven working knowledge of the COGNOS platform including Framework Manager, Workspace Advanced, Insight, Query Studio, Analysis Studio, Report Studio and Event Studio required.
  • Experience with creating and working with Cubes and TM1 required.
  • Working knowledge of SQL reporting language and syntax to build, audit and make recommendations highly desirable.
  • Experience with Data Platforms, Information Systems, Salesforce.com reporting, SPSS and Watson Analytics, Power Bi, R-Student, Excel Data Analysis Add-on and Visual Basic for Applications highly desirable.
  • Ability to quickly understand business models and the relationship between departments, their data entry process, the way which data flows through the departments and systems.
  • Must have excellent management, organizational, communications (written and oral), interpersonal, public speaking and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of reporting to support business operations, policy formulation and systems.
  • Experience in developing and documenting technical requirements to drive technical solutions, enhancements and their life-cycles to support business needs.
  • Capability to take responsibility for a project from start to finish.
