Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM), located on the beautiful Caribbean island of Dominica in the West Indies, invites applications for a Master Teacher at the campus Preparatory School. Our mission is to prepare highly dedicated students to become effective, successful physicians in the United States. Basic science coursework is taught in Dominica and students then complete their clinical studies in the United States. After passing all prerequisite examinations, Ross graduates are licensed to practice medicine in all 50 states of the U.S. Ross University School of Medicine is a division of Adtalem Global Education (NYSE:ATGE).

 

The RUSM Preparatory School and Early Learning Center serves the families of faculty, staff, and medical students. It is a small, multi-grade school providing early care and education for children from six weeks of age through 14 years. Curriculum and assessment are consistent with U.S. and Canadian standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a challenging, student-focused, curriculum based on the US Common Core,

            which incorporates multi-modal learning.

  • Commitment to student success that is measureable using formative and summative

        assessment, as well as incorporation of a work sampling system.

  • Support the development of students in all domains, meeting them where they are
  • Modification of the environment and the curriculum to ensure the success of the

Students.

  • Willingness to share talents and contribute to a professional learning community with a

        sense of humor, and a hopeful, caring, and open attitude.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education or a related field, Master’s degree preferred
  • A valid U.S. teacher’s certificate
  • The ability to integrate all areas of the curriculum, including Language Arts and STEAM, while teaching the Common Core standards
  • Knowledge of teaching and learning strategies and experience modifying the curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners at various stages of development
  • Sensitivity to diverse children and families
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with children and adults
  • The ability to use technology to enhance the classroom environment, communication with children and adults, direct instruction, and cooperative learning
  • An energetic personality with ability to engage young children in a creative manner

RUSM students begin their journey to become physicians on the school’s campus in Dominica, located in the West Indies. Students complete a rigorous basic science curriculum, supported by cutting-edge instructional technology, including an anatomy and medical imaging laboratory and a simulation center where students begin to develop clinical skills. Students then complete their medical education by taking core and elective clinical rotations in U.S., Canada, and UK.

 

In 2013, RUSM achieved a first-time pass rate of 97 percent on USMLE, which is on par with the rate achieved by US and Canadian schools, and above the rate achieved by osteopathic schools (94 percent) and international schools (79 percent).In 2014, RUSM graduates earned more than 800 residency positions; the largest number for any medical school in the world.
